Green Last Mile report highlights new responsible last-mile initiatives

Despite e-commerce volumes having dropped compared to the spike seen during the Covid pandemic, they are still higher than pre-Covid and are looking to keep increasing.

Hence, reducing the carbon footprint in the last mile is as important as ever.

But how can we in the last-mile industry make a difference? How do we communicate our efforts – and how do we avoid greenwashing?

For our part, we have been producing parcel lockers since 2012. While originally focusing solely on convenience, we have since extended our focus to also include environmental responsibility.

When designing our outdoor Infinity locker, it was paramount for us to choose robust materials with long durability, enabling the locker to be used in a wide range of weather conditions. Equally important was designing a locker that was easy to disassemble and recycle.

With Infinity lockers in operation since 2019, we had a good idea about the impact of their use. However, what we lacked were figures demonstrating the complete impact of the locker on the environment.

In 2023, we therefore engaged an external party to perform a life cycle analysis of our 16-compartment Infinity locker. This showed that changing our focus to include environmental responsibility was a sound decision. While materials used have a heavy impact, the recyclable design weighs up for this, resulting in a very low CO2e.

You can read much more about this and other interesting insights into the environmental aspects of the last-mile industry in the recently released Green Last Mile report.
